Kunal Majumder, alumni of Convergent Journalism (MA 2009) and Senior Correspondent of Tehelka accepting the Statesman Award for Rural Reporting 2010 from I&B Minister Ambika Soni on 16-Sep-2011 at Kolkata. This is Kunal's second journalism prize. In March 2011, he won the UNDP-Laadli Award for Gender Sensitivity.

Awarded for his story on the child miners in Meghalaya, the citation says: "Tehelka's fearless correspondent Kunal Majumder followed a few of the 70,000-odd children who spend their golden years in the claustrophobic and dangerous rat mines of Meghalaya to earn just about enough to see another day"

Ratnendra Pandey of M. A. Convergent Journalism has won UPI International Freelance Contest

A final year student of M.A. Convergent Journalism, AJK Mass Communication Research Centre Ratnendra K. Pandey has won United Press International Freelance contest. Ratnendra’s story Paper Mill leads India’s eco-friendly movement is reported from Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh and published at UPI’s website. His story idea was selected as the best idea. UPI is an US based news agency which is catering the news and information for more than 100 years. It conducts international freelance contests every year for journalism student worldwide. UPI is mentoring the students of Convergent Journalism department for years and working intensively in collaboration with the department.

It is a proud moment for Jamia Millia Islamia.
